In the past few weeks I have experienced several shocks. First a very good friend that I know from a networking group I attend, had a heart attack and passed away suddenly. He left behind a wife and two children and he was only 45. Another friend of mine told me she was getting a divorce and still another has an illness that is causing seizures.

All this stuff got me to thinking about how fragile life really is and about how little time there is to make memories and enjoy life. As Americans we spend a lot of time working. We are either on the way to work, coming home from work or thinking about work. We are all about chasing the American Dream. And as good as I think that is, I also think that we all need a little time to step back and smell the roses just a little.

If you are currently thinking about work, I challenge you to step back just a little and think about having some fun. A little fun never hurt anyone!

Have you ever stopped to consider the size of the travel industry? I am told that it is an eight trillion dollar industry. That number is almost too astonishing to get my mind around. Do you know why it is that big and getting bigger. You guessed it “baby boomers”. Where our parents were the “greatest generation”, we are the biggest. When our parents came home from the war they started having babies and lots of them. That group of people, of which I am a proud member, has been moving business forward since we came of age and started having babies. At every age and stage of life we have made some industry rich. When we had our babies it was the baby industry, companies like Gerber and Pampers benefited from our mass of people. We had more wealth and worked hard and bought cars, and boats and ate out. We were the modern generation with modern conveniences at home and at work.

And now we are retiring and what do you think we want to do with the money we have saved for retirement? Travel. We are fueling the industry just like we have so many others and will do so for a number of years to come. That is why being a part of the travel industry is so exciting. It is growing and there is nothing depressing about the forecast for continued growth.

Flying for Fun or Work?

So have you thought about your vacation yet this year? I know most everyone thinks about warmer climates in the middle of winter and wishes to be laying on a beach somewhere. This year one of the trips we are taking is to sunny Florida in April for a week of relaxing at the Magic Kingdom and one of their fabulous resorts.

Here is a tip is you are looking to fly somewhere. I saved about $50 per ticket going through my own business site at Rovia as opposed to going straight to the airlines. I booked about a week ago and paid less than $400 for 2 tickets. They were right around $500 at the time with AA, who seems to have the best connections. I was kind of surprised because I usually have better luck with going directly to the airlines and Rovia never promises the lowest airline prices, so I was not expecting a big difference.
